Welcoming Members of CRREM’s Technical Council

Amsterdam, 9 October 2025 — The CRREM Foundation has announced members of its newly restructured Technical Council, building on the base established by the former Scientific Committee. The CRREM Foundation Board has also approved the Technical Council’s first research and development initiative: a review of CRREM’s global energy Pathways.

Bringing together leading experts from academia, research institutions, and industry, the Technical Council reinforces CRREM’s role as a trusted, science-based tool for real estate investors, owners, occupiers, and other key stakeholders. Its mandate is to safeguard the scientific integrity of CRREM’s tools and methodologies while ensuring they remain practical and relevant for real-world decision-making.

The Technical Council comprises thirteen internationally recognized experts:

  • Dr. Chiara Delmastro, Energy Analyst Buildings, International Energy Agency (IEA)

  • Dr. Jens Hirsch, Chief Scientific Officer, BuildingMinds
  • Michael Izzo, Senior Managing Director, Energy & Decarbonization, Hines

CRREM’s Technical Council is a multi-disciplinary team of experts spanning several fields, from top-down macroeconomics and energy system specialists to bottom-up technical building experts. The Council’s diversity provides for the right blend of skills and perspectives to oversee CRREM’s science-based tools. It serves as an independent governing body that oversees the development, maintenance, and approval of the CRREM Pathways, CRREM Global Methodology, and CRREM Risk Assessment Tool.

In addition, the CRREM’s Foundation Board has also approved the Technical Council’s first research assignment: a review of CRREM’s global energy Pathways. This research and development mandate will assess if potential refinements could strengthen the relevance of CRREM’s EUI Pathways across regions, building types, and energy systems. It is part of the CRREM Foundation’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the CRREM Pathways remain scientifically robust, practical, and trusted by users. While the Technical Council undertakes this review, the current pathways remain fully endorsed for use. More details on the scope of work and timelines will be released in due course. CRREM has also been reviewing applications for additional members of its Foundation Board. This process is ongoing, and we look forward to announcing new members in the coming weeks as we continue to strengthen our governance.
